This may be small but that's just what I was looking for. I got this because that big warehouse store stopped carrying my favorite brand of breakfast links. I just haven't found one that is the same so I've decided it's time to take matters in my own hands and make my own. I'm only using this as a mold even though it says it's oven safe. It works really well and I love that it's dishwasher safe. It doesn't make a lot of links but it's enough for a breakfast and they're easy to freeze and pop out in a sausage shape.

I thought this would be good to make my vegetarian links and it is good but the top part are flat not rounded.

They definitely shouldn't have the word "hotdog "in the description. This is definitely more of the size of a breakfast sausage, but we will still give it a shot! We'll just need two in a hotdog bun😂it's very very flimsy & floppy, very thin silicone, so we plan to steam the sausages in a flat steamer basket and then freeze them in a plastic container to prevent breakage.

I use this for homemade breakfast sausage. Spray with non-stick to help the release. The cover helps you pack the sausage tight and overall it is a bit of a messy operation, so I recommend gloves. Wetting you hands helps too. I use this to form the sausage and then invert onto parchment lined cookie sheets to freeze. Transfer to a ziptop or a storage container. Making you own sausage is so much fun and you get to season it the way YOU like it. I like a pork with venison mix or pure pork. Sage or fennel are great spices to try. I have not tried using this in the freezer but that would likely work well too. Keep the mold very clean and sprayed or you will have release issues. Smaller than a commercial hot dog FYI.

What do you do when you have an older relative who doesn't find anything tasty and just wants hot dogs like they had when they were younger? Most people would either get into a battle or give those salty, nasty hot dogs and rationalize that a shorter but happier life is better than a longer but miserable life. That's not what I do.I make my own hot dogs. I leave out all nitrates and curing products. I don't add a single bit of salt. I choose the spices that won't cause heartburn but do give a hot dog flavor. And I add good quality ground meat and leaves (like parsley or basil or cilantro, depending the flavoring I'm going for). Then I painstakingly wrap each in plastic wrap that I twirl and tie at each end. All these individual caseless hot dogs get put into a cooking/freezer bag, I take out all the air, and seal. I then sous vide for a couple of hours so each hot dog sets in its shape and gets its first cook. I then refrigerate or freeze. When it comes time to serve, I unwrap, heat over coals to add that hint of smoke and to cook the outsides a bit harder, plus warm them up throughout. These hot dogs taste great, and people not on a restricted diet love them, too. I've made turkey-inside-beef (turbeefen) dogs, teriyaki beef dogs, Italian sausage dogs - all meaty, all easier to digest, all with no added salt (you can add salt, seasoning, or a sauce after if you want). I find it hard to imagine eating a regular hot dog these days. Except...Rolling the ingredients in plastic wrap, having it hold the shape while trying to tie off the ends tightly is a big chore, takes a lot of time, and it can go wrong. It's the toughest part of the whole process. What's worse is that it adds a food safety concern to preparation because this step takes so long while meat isn't being refrigerated. All that has changed with this mold. Loading is fast, any flimsiness is reinforced by an outer skin-tight sous vide bag, and the flimsiness means cooking heat easily penetrates and the dogs set and cook. Cleaning for reuse is easy, too. For me this is an ideal mold. I will have to purchase more so I can prepare several batches at a time. That's actually saying a lot because I got this mold for review. Its list price gets reported as income to me so it's not really free. Getting more is all on me, though, and that is what I am going to do.Others here complain, and maybe that's appropriate for their manner of cooking. Me? I couldn't have made this mold better if it was made to my specifications. I hope my experience will help you with your own shopping and product selection. Did you know one of the standard hot dog flavorings is nutmeg? Look it up! Get this mold and you'll be on your way to making your own.
